About the Poets

In the Middle Ages, the Galician-Portuguese lyric was a lyric poetic movement that occured around the Iberian Peninsula. The troubadours and minstrels of this movement found support in the royal courts of Leon, Castile, and Portugal. The authors range from lower social classes and simple knights to great lords and even kings. Unfortunately, the biographical information of many of these authors is scarce or has been lost over time. Nonetheless, these writers contributed not only to a literary movement, but also to a social one.
